Facing severe business loss due to the nationwide lockdown, top ride-hailing, food delivery and hospitality companies, as well as mid-stage startups are scrambling to spread awareness against the disease and protect their employees. And one of the most proactive measures seems to be coming from the apps in India.

Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, among others, have announced several measures to ensure safe deliveries, including ‘contactless drop-offs’ and safe ride for commuters.

Food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato have introduced several measures to protect their employees including delivery persons from getting infected.

The company is also providing continuous training to its delivery partners with regards to best practices when it comes to respiratory hygiene, the correct frequency and method of hand-washing, and awareness about symptoms associated with the pandemic to ensure easy identification. Both Zomato and Swiggy have been in contact with restaurants as well to ensure the latter are following all health codes and aware of the best hygiene practices while handling and packaging food items.

Contactless Delivery – amidst the current lockdown situation in India, ensuring delivery of safe, hygienic food to our customers is paramount for us. To ensure this, we have launched contactless delivery. Customers can opt to allow the delivery partner to leave the package outside their home, ensuring no human-to-human interaction and hence lowering risk of any transmission.

Face masks – we believe that people should wear masks for the sake of others, if not for themselves. In that spirit, we have distributed and continue to distribute face masks to our delivery partners to keep them, as well as our customers, safe from the spread of an unlikely infection. We are also continuously educating our delivery partners on hygiene practices (not to touch face, nose, sneeze in elbow, etc.) to ensure their own as well as the ecosystem’s safety.

Disabling COD – for safety reasons, to avoid contact between our users and delivery partners, we’ve temporarily disabled the CoD (cash-on-delivery) option on our app.

Safety Measures – Indian unicorns sets and ensure the safety of drivers and restaurants. They show themselves reliable with the ensuring marking in digits.

Emergency – Ride-hailing apps take emergency rides only to the hospitals to help the ill people or sick people.

And thus Indian unicorns serve the people and themselves on this pandemic with the above discussed preventive measures.
